CASCADE Endocrine Disruption Conference: present health threats and future research needs

On October 2nd 2008, the CASCADE Open Forum hosted in Brussels brought together over 100 representatives of academia, government agencies (US Environmental Protection Agency, European Commission), industry (Cefic) and civil society to discuss knowledge gaps and research needs in order to better address the threats of endocrine disrupting chemicals in our environment.

The Health and Environment Alliance (HEAL) attended the CASCADE Open Forum to represent the NGOs’ work on endocrine disrupting substances . Dr. Lisette van Vliet, HEAL’s Toxics Policy Advisor, presented HEAL’s work on endocrine disrupters and breast cancer (download her presentation here in pdf format).

The outcome of the meeting will be a Strategic Agenda which clearly defines the mutual needs, interests and expectations in main activities areas: research, education and risk assessment. It will be published on the CASCADE website.
